Rugby League World Cup Finals Prediction

With one quarter final completed in rather predictable and ruthless fashion, the final 4 is shaping up to be a classical day in the Nations capital next weekend.

NZ are through after demolishing Scotland this morning and barring their tendency to 'go to far' with the risky second phase football, the Kiwis look formidable in there structures and ability to play off the cuff footy.

Tonight's game will see the Australian's put the gallant American's to the sword in their last hit out that carrys no inherent danger for the Aussies at the knock out stage of the tournament. The Aussies will then meet the winner of the Fiji V Samoa game, which I predict will be the Samoans. Thinking back to how the Samoan's put 20+ points on the Kiwis in the first game, lends me to think the Quarter Final between Australia V  Samoa will be a real 'banana skin' for the Aussies.

The other side of the draw will see the NZ face off of the winner between England V France from this weekend. The English should take care of the French, but a closer investigation of the France V Samoa game will show 3 genuine opportunities for the French to score were bombed by poor last pass decisions. If they had of converted 2 of them the 20-4 score line would have been closer to 20 all in the second half. No mean feat considering the calibre of the Samoans in this tournament. The English need to make a statement as the Semi Final against NZ will be a level they haven't experienced yet and need to be steeled for the early onslaught.

My heart would love to see the English play the Samoans or the Australian's in the Final but my head is seeing an Australian V NZ Final with the Kiwis favourite to retain their hands on the trophy for the next 4 years.
