WIlliams commits to Sharks until 2020

MapSports would like to announce the resigning of Jack Williams to the Cronulla Sharks for the next 2 seasons. Williams who hails from Cooma in Southern NSW joined the Sharks after winning the NYC Player of the Year with the Canberra Raiders in 2016.

Williams relocated for the opportunity to train at the NRL level and unfortunately was struck down with a calf injury in his first preseason with the club. The time on the sideline hampered his progression and he spent a big part of 2017 fighting for form and clarity around his position within the team.

With a rejuventated and injury free attack on the 2018 preseason, Williams set about establishing some of the gains he missed in the 2017 preseason and he finished impressing the coaching staff and senior players with his speed, strength and fitness improvements.

Those gains and an all important move from the edge backrow into the middle backrow saw a few stars align for Williams and like his stable mate, Kurt Dillon 2 weeks earlier, he was set to make his debut agianst his old club in the Nationals Captial. That effort saw him rewarded with a try and 55 minutes on the field and a place in the 17 each week moving forward. That was until a seemingly normal tackle in the Broncos game, left him with a pectoral tear that would end his season.

The club believe they have secured the services of a young man at the very start of what could be a long and storied NRL career and when we spoke to Williams he was over the moon about finalising his future with the Sharks.

"I took a bit of a gamble 18 months ago to move to the Sutherland Shire, which is a big move for a young guy out of the Riverina who have known nothing else but growing up in rural areas and playing junior reps for the Raiders. I can honestly say I am so happy I did as I love living in the area and developing my game at the club. All the senior guys have been very supportive through this pectoral set back and I cant wait to repay the faith the club have shown me by getting my body right and having a huge 2019."

Everyone at MapSports withes Jack the best for the next 2 seasons.
