Hynes stars in debut for Melbourne Storm.

MapSports Nicho Hynes has had a dream deut for the Melbourne Storm on the weekend, coming up agains the vaunted South Sydney Rabbitohs on his home soil in Gosford. Having grown up down the road in Ettalong Beach, Hynes spent his formative years developing in the Manly Sea Eagles Pathway where he played junior reps right through until apperaring in the 2015 NYC Grand Final against the Penrith Panthers.

Spending the next season still in the system under new coach Trent Barrett, Hynes soon found himself on the fringe of selection and some doubts bbegan to surface about the future. Seeking a fresh start Hynes packed up his belongings and moved to the Mackay Cutters, in the Intrust Cup in QLD. Not a notorious team like the Dolphins or Blackhawks, Hynes found the beggining very difficult as he balanced a new home, with new teamates, new coach, new systems, new job and new lifestyle with his first bout of homesickness. After regaining himself he finished the year strongly and was rewarded with another opportunity with the Cutters. Unfortunately things stayed pretty much the same as the side struggled against the better teams and fought hard against the lower teams. To Nicho's credit he finished both years responsible for either scoring or setting up 20 tries (40 in total) without elite talent around him.
Enter the Sunshine Coast Falcons. After witnessing Hynes pull the comp apart with minimal strike, the Falcons were keen to secure his services, which they did for the 2019 season. It became apparent pretty quickly that Hynes was going to excel in this environment wher ehe had accounted for 17 try assists and scored 6 himself in only 11 rounds (23 in total). Having genuine try poachers around him gave him more of a license to leverage his vision and skill, week after week.

That all leads up to the 'best day of his life' so far as he realised a boyhood dream when he ran out onto Central Coast Stadium with the Melbourne Storm. He reflected on the game with words like surreal and awesome, and he cant wait to do it again. We dont think it will be too long before we see Nicho out there again.
